Reflection
This website is the result of a 12 page research paper. Prior to completing this project, I had general knowledge of President John F. Kennedy, but I never had any depth to what I knew. I always suspected that our countries fascination with him stemmed from his glamorous life or tragic death, and I never really thought much about why he was considered a great President, one worthy of our admiration. I now know that he was a true hero, a hero when he served in the war and a hero while he served as President. I now think that we have him to thank for not sending the world into a full scale nuclear holocaust. I can now consider myself one of his adoring fans, in addition to someone who thinks we need his face on Mount Rushmore.
I think that President Kennedy could be taught over many grades. Under North Carolina Essential Standards, I think the subject would fall well into 5th grade social studies, under the following standards.
5.H.1: Analyze the chronology of key events in the United States.
5.H.2: Understand the role of prominent figures in shaping the United States.
5.C&G.2: Analyze life in a democratic republic through the rights and responsibilities of citizens.
